Mò vene Natale

As a Christmas greeting, this year (2025), Suonova presents “Mo’ vene Natale” (Now comes Xmas): a cover of an ancient Sicilian nursery rhyme, set to music in 1959 by the great Renato Carosone, who sang it in Neapolitan.

The four-part vocal arrangement for Suonova is by Bacco Baccanels and is available for free on Musescore at this address.

From the “Wesuvio” website, we learn that it is an ancient poem by an unknown author, of Sicilian origin, which originally read: “Mo’ vene Natale e u ttegnu dinari; mi pigghiu a pippa e mi mindu a fumari!”.

Suonova sing this following version of the text.

Mo vene Natale * nun tengo denare * me leggio ‘o giurnale * e me vaco a cuccà.
Mamma, mamma * e damme n’a mano * ca ruoppo rimane fernesce ‘a semmana e nun saccio che fa, e nun saccio che fa.
Mo’ vene Natale * nun tengo denare * me fumo 'na pippa * e me vaco a cuccà.
Mo vene Natale * nun tengo denare * me leggio ‘o giurnale * e me vaco a cuccà.
Vatte a cuccà!

Happy holidays everyone!
